How much time do you need for La Graciosa: a few hours or a full day?
Updated October 19, 2026 · 5 min read
Plan a full day for La Graciosa – but ask not how long the trip lasts, but how much of it you spend ashore. That ranges from 45 minutes to a day of your own design. If you want to see the island, take the €29 ferry and plan around the return sailings between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. If you want a boat day with food, book the six-hour island cruise (€66), but expect more than six hours from hotel to hotel. The return ferry with bus gives you about four and a half hours on the island.

The arithmetic of the catamaran trips
For the €66 cruise the itinerary counts 30 minutes on the ferry, 45 minutes in Caleta de Sebo, 3 hours 45 minutes of sailing, swimming, kayaking and lunch, and 30 minutes back: 5 hours 30 minutes in all, plus the drive from your hotel to Órzola, which the plan does not put a number on. On the €72 sailing trip it is one hour by coach, 25 minutes by ferry, 3.5 hours on the catamaran, one hour of free time in the village, another 25 minutes by ferry and one hour by coach. That comes to a good seven hours, although the listing says six. Do not book a tight dinner for that evening.

On the ferry, the sailings set the day
With the €29 ferry you choose the outward sailing when you buy. You may return the same or the next day without a new booking, on sailings at 8:00 a.m., 8:40 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The crossing takes half an hour. For a few hours in the village one of the earlier returns will do, though the journey to Órzola is added to your day. If you want more than the village, take the 5:00 p.m. sailing and use the time. What is possible on the island is compared in La Graciosa by Jeep: four 4x4 tours.

Bus and ferry: four and a half hours, but fixed
The €40 booking gives the outward ferry from Órzola at 11:00 a.m. and the return ferry from La Graciosa at 4:00 p.m. After the half-hour crossing about four and a half hours remain: enough for the village and lunch, but with no slack at the end. If you want to come back later, you need the €29 ferry.

My recommendation is the six-hour island cruise when one booking should fill the day and 45 minutes ashore are enough for you. Choose the €29 ferry and the late return, and a long island day is yours. A rushed out-and-back saves hours but misses the point of going.
