Lanzarote without a car: what buses and tours can really cover
Updated October 8, 2026 · 4 min read
You can holiday in Lanzarote without a car if you stay in a main resort and book the difficult sightseeing days. Public buses work best between Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca; they are not a complete sightseeing network. For most visitors, the simplest answer is the 9-hour Full-Day Island Highlights Tour at €51. If Timanfaya, Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes are the priorities, the dedicated 9-hour tour costs €89.

| Tour | Duration | from | Rating | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Full-Day Island Highlights Tour | 9 hours | €51 | 4.7 from 3,265 | broad first overview |
| Timanfaya, Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes Tour | 9 hours | €89 | 4.5 from 2,756 | the three headline sights |
What works by bus
Use buses for resort-to-resort journeys and Arrecife. Leave generous margins: a connection designed for residents is not obliged to match a ferry, timed attraction ticket or tour departure. Check the official timetable for your exact day rather than relying on a map app alone.

What remains awkward
Papagayo’s coves, scattered La Geria wineries and a chain of northern viewpoints are possible without driving, but not conveniently in one improvised day. A taxi solves one leg, not a multi-stop route. A guided tour is also the better choice when wine tasting is the purpose.
Do not rent for the entire week by reflex. Two carefully planned car days can cover the places buses miss, while the rest of the holiday stays car-free.
Our recommendation
Stay without a car if beach time dominates. Book the Full-Day Island Highlights Tour for your main sightseeing day; add a short rental only if you want independent coves and viewpoints.
