Surf lessons in Famara: four schools at €48 to €50, and the details that actually differ
Updated October 7, 2026 · 8 min read
The short answer: the four popular Famara lessons cost almost the same – €50, or €47.50 for the cheapest – so the choice is not the price. It is where you are staying and how old your surfer is. For most people the Surf School Lanzarote lesson is the one to book: €50, 5 out of 5 from 269 reviews, board and wetsuit included. If you are staying in Puerto del Carmen and do not want to drive, the lesson with pickup is the practical one. If anyone in your group is under 10, check the age limit below before you pay.

Surf School Lanzarote: the one with the most reviews
The school presents itself as the first surf school on the island, with instructors who hold ISA and RLSS certificates. You choose between a group lesson of up to eight people and a private lesson, and between a 2-hour and a 4-hour option; the full-day version has a lunch break around noon and you bring your own snack. Surfboard, wetsuit and transport to the beach from the school are included.
The page excludes people with heart problems and non-swimmers. It states no minimum age, which is not the same as saying children of any age are welcome: ask before you book for a young child.
It has the most reviews of the four and the highest score. If you cannot decide, this is the safe pick.

Red Star: the only one with multi-day courses
At the Red Star Surf & Yoga Camp in Caleta de Famara you can book a 2-hour introduction, a 4-hour lesson with video analysis (weather permitting), or a 3-day or 5-day course with daily video feedback; the 5-day course adds a certificate and a T-shirt. Groups are limited to eight, equipment and medical insurance are included, and the lesson language is English.
Two details matter. Under 8s are excluded, as are pregnant women and people with mobility impairments. And pickup is not automatic: the page says hotel pickup may be available on request from Costa Teguise, Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen, to be confirmed in advance, and not from Playa Blanca. The total with transfer can reach six hours, and times can shift with the tides and the weather.
If you are on holiday for a week and want to actually improve, this is the offer built for it.

The lesson with pickup: the least effort
The price is the same €50, and the day is organised around the lift: pickup between 9:00 and 9:30 AM from the Puerto del Carmen area, a short theory session at Famara, a 2.5-hour lesson, fruit and water, and back at your hotel at about 1:00 PM. The operator allows 30 minutes each way. Pickup from Arrecife, Playa Honda, Puerto Calero or Costa Teguise carries an extra €15 paid to the driver.
Children under 10 are excluded. Instructors are in the water with you, and when conditions allow they take photos and short video clips, which are sent free; the page says plainly that these are amateur recordings and that the number is not guaranteed. A reviewer who stayed in Puerto del Carmen calls the pickup easy.

Momo: the smallest school and the only one in French
A local, family-run school with a two-hour lesson in French, Spanish or English. You meet on the beach or at their meeting point, and the lesson covers a warm-up, a safety briefing on waves and currents, a technical explanation on the sand, and then the water. Board, wetsuit, rash vest and third-party liability insurance are included, and groups are limited to eight.
It is the cheapest at €47.50 with 4.9 out of 5 from 69 reviews. It does not include transport, and the page states no age limit.

Getting to Famara, and the questions that decide it
Famara is on the north-west coast, so the drive matters. From Playa Blanca it is the longest way, and Red Star says outright that it does not collect from there. If you are driving yourself, you can price a hire car for the day. Every surf option is in surf lessons in Famara.
Our recommendation
For most people: the Surf School Lanzarote lesson, €50, 5 out of 5 from 269 reviews, with a private option if you prefer.
Book a date for the Surf School Lanzarote lesson
Staying in Puerto del Carmen and not driving: the lesson with pickup. Staying a week and wanting to improve: the Red Star course. Surfing in French, or the lowest price: Momo.
Not for you if you cannot swim comfortably, have heart problems, or want a surf lesson with a child under 8. And do not expect a warm lagoon: all four lessons include a wetsuit.
